I always say to myself (negative black) disconnect first, reconnect last.
Suppose downfall of that is remembering it's the black I'm talking about...... |

Good practice is to always disconnect the negative first on safety grounds The reason is that if you accidentally touch the frame etc with your driver, spanner etc (Disconnecting positive first) you will create a massive short from live to earth and create huge sparks and potential explosion at the same time. If you disconnect the negative first and touch the frame then you are just earthing something that is always earthed anyway.
The reverse applies when re-connecting - connect the positive first then the negative for the same rreasons. |

I always take positive off first but i dont think you can do any harm either way, do one at a time and keep them touching and you wont have to reset the clocks

So my old charger died a few days ago and I have bought a nice new oxford Optimser trickle charger. It has different leads and connectors so I need to disconnect the battery, install the new lead, and reconnect the battery.
Just thought I had better check. Is there a disconnect reconnect sequence to follow ie red first, then black, then reconnect black then red.....in case ecu's get fried etc? Thanks |
