How many miles did you get out of the Metz M5s ?? Is it just me been too rough with them or is 2k the going milage ? I cant fault the tyre but milage seemed a little low imo.

I don't remember to be honest. I got about 2,000 out of them before I crashed the bike and they had enough tread left on them for the impending Eurotrip I was going to be going on the following day, admittedly they would've been slicks after that.

If I cant get 2-3,000 or miles out of a tyre then I'm happy so the M5s were on par with my expectations. I got 3,000 out of the 2CTs on the ZX10R but they were illegal for a good 600 of those but I was stuck on the continent in the Alps LOL

Fitted Angel GT on mine, first tyres I've ever had that hardly needed any scrubbing in.  Big smile

+1

There's quite many features in these tires ( motorcycle/ car) which they are testing and measuring, deside 1-2-3 major features that you would like to have in your tire ( for 'hifists' like me the rolling resistance and weight are the ONES) and buy it - you can't go wrong then.

Last time I decided to go after mileage and bought Pirelli Angel ST's, I'm satisfied even noticed afterward's it's heavy ....

Metz M3's are ooooold tech mate, the M5 is much superior Tyre, but it replaced the M3's at least 3 or 4 years ago.

The M7RR is replacing the M5 this april, one of its feature claims is better milage than the M5's ..
I ran Racetec Interacts, then got M5 interacts, love them. I'll get most the summer out of my current M5's and will go M7RR when I'm done.

Its M5s ive got mate. I was been a dick by putting M3s the M7s sound good but as been new out bet they will be pricey. Ive read a lot of good reports on the BT023. Seem to do the milage and provide plenty of grip in wet and dry.

price i got was only 13 more than M5's..  well worth a 10% price hike if they last 30% longer..

I think for the vast majority of us it comes down to a what feels better/how long they last for the dosh type equation.

Most sports tyres made in the last 10 years or more, probably, are better tham most riders imho

I do agree..  BUT you can always ride better with confidence and feedback, having great tyres can help an average rider take a step forward... or rescue you from a mistake with minimal fuss.

Good tyres make me a better rider, as said I have more confidence in them ! Not that ive ever found the limit of a tyre cos I aint but its one of them mind things.
Most tyres will out perform me but I know my ass would nip if the tyres did slide on me when im pushing along !
Just a piece of mind for me

I read an interesting article in MCN the other day. The perfect tyre: lots of miles, lots of grip...the article pit bridge stone bt014 against the new T30 On track. When the 014 came out it was a bloody good tyre, I went through several and loved the grip, but 2000 miles wasn't much. The article I read put both these tyres on stock gixxers and compared. The T30 is a touring tyre, 8000 miles worth. It beat the 014, lap times were quicker, they even outlasted by miles and miles and retained good grip throughout whereas the 014s were going off after 20 laps or so. What was good about the T30 was they worked from the start, right out the box, minimal warmup. Bridge stone do the S20, and soon to be S20 Evo.....
The point of this is don't stick with what you know, embrace the new stuff as compared even to a couple of years ago, its better, more value, more grip and more miles.
I'm up for the S20 Evos as soon as the Dunlop's wear out, and the T30 on my other bike. I'm a bit fed up of working the Dunlop's to get them to work properly, and on the road on a cold morning, that's just sh*t. I currently have BT023 on the other bike and those f**kers pull wheelies cold and in the wet...the dunplops just spin.

My tuppance worth!

Only ever used Diablo Corsas (different models) on the Tuono as they just do everything right & feel good. Do well to get 2k out of a rear (and by then they're nearly transparent) but it's just a toy so can live with it.

I've put Angel ST's on the ZRX and am impressed so far. They seem to grip good when i'm pushing on a bit, great in the wet & after 1500 miles don't even looks used.

Had Avon Storms on the owd bandit and I could CHUCK that bike about, they always did the job, decent in the wet too

Just to further muddy the waters, is anyone using a 190/55 on their gen1? Any clearance issues?

Yes I use 190/55.

Currently Maxxis Supermaxx - no issues
Have used Dunlop Sportsmart - slight chain strike (but then some rear rims are 5.5inch as opposed to 6 inch)

You on stock gearing and chain length? I'm curious about the potential of the extra height rubbing the front of the swingarm or hugger if the wheel can't be adjusted far enough back. The 190/55 to me seems the perfect solution to the 180/55 vs 190/55 debate...but not if it destroys a carbon hugger and damages a swingarm or the tyre itself. I don't have the finances for that experiment. Ha ha

no on 16/44 gearing , I only have the standard plastic hugger and have no clearance issues (no evidence of any strike marks) likewise no issues with the swingarm clearance.

The caveat being that Frankie aint like any other RSV !!

I couldn't cope with 2k miles out of a tyre!! I got 12k out of some once and they still had tread, sold the bike with them on. They were pretty misshapen though.

I went 3 years of biking without having to put new tyres on any bikes lol, put 4k on my second bike and they were barely any different to when I bought it so sold them on the bike as well and didn't lose a penny on the bike so had a year's free biking.

I do get called kevlar tyres as they don't seem to wear at all Smile I probably ride a lot more conservatively to most guys on here though.

It's not conservative, it's having a smooth riding style. ;)

That is what it's attributed to, as I don't accelerate or brake harshly and most people say I am a smooth rider. Suits me as it's cheaper and means less Saturdays are taken up in the garage lol.
