Good Evening All,

I'm looking for a little advise on what to do with my 2002 RSV-R, genuine Haga Rep.
I've had it for about 5 years and in all honesty its been a great bike to me. However, I've started to get itchy feet and have been toying with the idea of a later model RSV twin but according to the book, my bikes only worth about £1500 - £2000.
So here's the conundrum, do I spend around 3 grand and part ex for a newer bike or spend a little on mine to bring it up to scratch, i.e. improve fuelling, suspension etc.
Any thoughts would be appreciated, I really like the look of the 2006+ RSV's but are they really that much better? Or would a few quid spent on mine make a big difference?

Thanks,

Billy

Think it would sell for nearer 2500.

Can't believe it's still standard....big bore if you want power..Griffs doing a ride in ride out service. Or go the 57,pc3 and airbox route

Suspension wise you have the ohlins..time for a service and set up

Does a PC make much difference to low speed (town) running, I'm finding it a nightmare in those situations.
The old girl's got 27,500 miles on her.
Here's what I was thinking about doing if I keep her; Power Commander, AirBox, correct set-up, rear sets, and all known niggles with these earlier bikes sorted.
At a later date maxton set-up and possibly a new paint job??
Should be like a new bike, right?

Haga Rep, Lovely

Service & setup the ohlins
Race Chip
PC III
Quickshifter
Airbox Kit
Rearsets

Being a haga has the akra 2-2 system?

Leave the paintwork unless it really needs it & keep it the o.e haga

Big bore is good call
04 Tuono Fighter

Yeah, AKRA 2 into 2, Sounds awesome, and I like the look of a twin can set-up.
Starting to look like I may be better off keeping the old girl.
I'll give Griff a call tomorrow and get some quotes

The usual question people with older gen 1's always ask at some point Smile

Personally I think the newer ones look much nicer, and they are more powerful and possibly lighter as well.

The people I know who had gen 1's  and traded up to gen 2's couldn't get on with them though and either went back to earlier models or went away from Aprilia entirely.

I must admit I think the newer ones look better, didn't feel as comfortable when I sat on it though.
I'll see what quote I get for the work I want doing and make a decision from there.

Thanks for all the opinions and advice folks

yep make gearing a priority 16-44

Gazza just had this done along with one of Ed's chips and think he was shocked at what difference it made.

As above its a Haga..keep it as one ...unless you buy a full bodykit for a resprayWink

Buying & selling bikes is a mugs game, same as cars.

Keep it, stick fuel in & ride it then think aboiut a winter going over.

Better yet get yourself an old 70's aircooled il4 & try a light resto on that to scratch that itch. Them old nails are worth some cash now!

Well the ape's already got a stable mate in the form of a 79 Laverda, so I've got that base covered. It's more about what would be best value for money, improving vs trading in. I reckon it would cost me 3 to 4 grand to trade up, I'm sure I could get a lot of work done for half that.
As far as the standard paintwork goes, she's starting to look tired in that department, that's the only reason I was thinking of a refresh.

I've loved the bike since admiring it as a school lad when it entered WSBK so eventually will go the direction of a big bore. The high target is a 150BHP motor. Maybe... Ermm

On my 2003 R I've got...

Leo Vince 2-2
Forza FR200 EPROM
PC3 (Zero Map) with Quick Shifter
57mm TB's
Early Air Intake
Hooked Airbox
16/44 Gearing

Iirc and Tash can put me right as he does them, the big bore gets between 130 - 140 bhp but gets a load more torque which is where it's all at with these motors anyway.

Red - Yeah, he's got lightweight wheels but you can't beat carbon ;)

As the lovely Redrat says I had the gearing changed and one of Eds chips, the chip has made a huge difference to the fueling and the gearing has given it a bit more...err...zip, (good word zip) certainly feels quicker, Griff estimates that the acceleration with the gearing change is equal to another 10bhp and it does feel like it, if yours feels lumpy in traffic then it'll most likely be on standard gearing so when it's time for new chain and sprockets go for it, Griff charged me £217 for the change and Eds chips are £45, that's a lot cheaper than the hit you'll take selling it in the first place, though if you want to get rid of it for £1500 I'll be at the front of the queue, even with that mileage on it.

Getting mid 130bhp is nice with a big bore and wont cost the earth but if you are looking to get high 140 to 150 you are starting to get into a lot of money but christ does it make these bikes fun.You could always look at getting an early gen 2 and going the spoonvalley supercharging route they are getting around 180 reliably with them.

When you say reliably ... do you mean actually reliable to the point of doing long trips on them? i would love a supercharger or a large big bore but i really dont want to be forever rebuilding the thing, im just too much of a tight arse :p

They can be reliable but i dont think i would want to trust it on a tour with the amount of specialist parts on a blown bike if anything went the chances of finding a replacement quick would be slim.Mine is a 2000r fitted with the 1103 kit and is putting out 147 but the heads also had to have big valves, porting work,57tbs,cams,followers,open airbox, headers, clutch upgrade and numerous other bits to get it so not cheap.Yours might work out cheaper depending what heads and cams are originally fitted as mine was the small valve motor but since the work was done it has been totally reliable.

i'd go for later heads from an 04> model they can be fitted with a little work and flow out of the box so to speak...then just swap flanges on your akra system

Just in-case you chaps are interested, I have indeed decided to keep my old girl, had a good chat with griff this afternoon and I'll be sending the bike up early june for some pampering.
Thanks for all of the input, in the end it helped make the decision an easy one.
