Hello to all my name is Jason I have recently joined the forum after buying a tuono gen 1. I have ridden a multitude of inline four bikes and this is my first foray into twins. I am impressed with the bike it has shed loads of grunt and handles beautifully. However, the engine gives a slight cough every now and then which kind of feels like the bike is running out of fuel. It doesn't cut out or die it just gives a little cough then the engine runs normally. This is a bit disconcerting when it coughs on high speed bends. Am using high grade fuel, the bike has only done 11000 miles on a 55 plate last serviced @ 8000 miles. Do you fellas have any ideas on what is causing this? Thanks for your time Smile

Welcome mate

Not really sure about the problem other than to recommend that as the bike is new to you I'd  get it looked at and set up by the Griff at AP (the Aprilia miester) as you don't know what's been done to it setting wise in the past.

Probably just needs a minor tweak of the settings to turn it into a different bike,I thought mine was set up well (by an ex Kawasaki BSB tech) until Griff had 1/2hr with it,night & day difference afterwards.

Believe me it's well worth the travelling and your bike is in the best possible hands, you just can't beat AP for working on these bikes.

Once you've been Griffed you honestly won't ever want anyone else getting near your pride & joy.

Ok had this myself can be quite scary if you throttle up to compensate when it kicks back in, gapping the plugs helps a lot plus all the usual checks for water in the fuel. First check, gap the plugs 0.6 from the manual.

Big cylinders and lots of fuel means you need the spark as strong as possible.

No bike 🙈

Ive had this happen on a few occasions and each one a diff reason..first time was battery earth cable loose.. Second time I had kinked the braided high pressure fuel hose and third time it was my dodgy crimping of a connector on the pc3...food for thought.. And welcome sir..:-)

Is it only happening on bends? Phil suffered a nasty cough that took him off the bike when his crash sensor (over tilt sensor by the battery) wasnt fitted quite right, and the cornering tricked the bike into thinking it had fallen over, fuel cut a split second then came back in.

The cough occurs infrequently at any time or riding angle, the one on a the bend made me sh*t myself cos the bike dropped in slightly when I was holding a nice fast line @ about 90 (on a racetrack of course officer). So I thought i'de get it sorted before the bike spits me off the next time I ride it hard. Another small issue is that there appears to be a coolant leak by the expansion bottle, which has manifested by way of high speed spray/ mist over the clutch cover. I'm guessing a pinhole leak that leaks when the engine is running warm. Shall have to see where the aprilia guru resides to give my bike the once over. Thanks again all Smile
