Been a lot of earthqaukes here in Icland this month.
From 3.0 to 5.1 last evening, we are waiting for the Big one.

Everybody is on there toes, the houses are built for this in mind, but still shake and rattle. Pretty exciting.

We have meters all over Iceland to keep a close eye on, the earths movement, and one of the meters. Close to where i live has now moved 7cm in 3 days, that is a lot. Talking about the earths crust.

Shake’s more than a v-twin😂

So covid is “finished” here in Iceland, let us bring on the earthquakes, maybe we will even get an erruption.
Never a dull day.

Best

John

What techniques do they use in house construction to cope with this?

Stay safe mate!

I’ve only ever experienced 1 very mild earthquake, it’s a weird sensation.  I you moved 7cm that quickly you might have a different post code by the end of the month.

( pics if there is an eruption)

My father has a place in Samos Greece and was there when the big quake hit a few months ago, luckily his place is a relatively new build and is designed for quakes, loads of the older buildings were destroyed and lots of the Greeks didn’t have insurance as its a waste of money apparently according to the locals. The only damage to my father’s was a broken water pipe, a crack across the paving and the pool cover wrecked when the pool water decided to jump out of it.

Well there has been a total of 10thousand quakes since it started a week ago.
They do say it is likely to be an erruption, how big no one knows.
Will post pictures, if something happens.

My first experience of earthquake, was the big one we had here.
Just after i moved to Iceland.
6.5 and i was working as a mechanic at the time, changing tie rods on Vw Touareg 2.400kg.
Hanging over my head on the lift, needless to say i ran outside, when the lift and car was going from side to side above meShocked

As a New Zealander we are very aware of and suffer from earthquakes , so can understand and feel for you.

In fact with active volcanoes and earthquakes geologically speaking our countries are not that different.

So, no erruptions yet...
But we have had over 41.000 earquakes, since this started 2 1/2 weeks ago.
They think this will be, what we call a “tourist” erruption. Flow of lava, not spweeing out.

Just incredible!

I remember the last eruption, 10 years ago, that grounded loads of flights etc. One of my friends over there was saying that they were firing Thors cannon at us! What amazed me at the time, was the lightning within the clouds of ash spewing out.

Great pics Big smile
Question everything.
