"Get used to it,because as our manufacturing base continues to decline due to greed and short sightedness on the part of both workers and management we'll soon only be able to buy Chinese goods."

Also....

...our manufacturing base continues to decline due to greed and short sightedness on the part of end users because they'd rather buy cheap goods from China (or anywhere else outside the UK) than keep the money circulating at home where we really need it at the moment.

I'd buy some British levers if somebody made them but they don't! Or do they?

Harris buy in from wherever is the cheapest on the 'net,we made some parts for them once.

I think China ended up cheaper as we never saw them again Tongue

And would I buy British just because it's British?   Would I hell,if I haven't got the time to make whatever myself it doesn't bother me what country it came from as long as the price /quality/delivery equation is ok.

It's not even as though the workforce is British here anymore, place I work is collecting Poles and Greeks now and they send most of their wages home apart from food & drink which gets spent at the local Polish shop and no doubt most of this gets sent back to Gdansk or Athens.

Unfortunately, that attitude is why millions have lost their jobs. But, when even Governmnt doesn't even buy British, what hope do we have.

Seen some cheap levers called "bad dog brake/clutch levers" not sure where they are made on on sportsbikeshop.co.uk for about £30...think they are only available in black/red adjusters though.

I'mm still  lovin this thread......lol

But it's been hi-jacked to death....from someone (sorry can't remember who?) asking if chinese levers were OK.
The general consensus is yes.....they're hunky dory....super dooper.....tickety boo.
Great.
I don't give a toss about the country of manufacture
OR the differences between economies
OR global recessions
OR who imports them
OR whether they are good value
OR if they actually work
Yer pays yer money and takes yer choice, don't you?
My concern is theft of intellectual copyright

Mate of mine bought some fake Snap-On sockets....they were every bit as good as the originals....you simply can't tell them apart from the proper stuff.....but it doesn't actually matter does it?
Or does it?
Before long, those that buy genuine Snap-On gear will not actually know what they've got in their tool box.
:)

We can compete with other European manufacturers (if we didn't have short sighted greedy business leaders/sharehlders with their puppet politicians) but no one can compete with China/India et al, who are being given Western technology. We still in many instances pay top prices for goods made for peanuts, hence why certain tax evading textile billionaires have become so wealthy, while paying welfare dependant salaries to staff in their N*w Lo*k stores.
